Boyd Lyles Jr. MD
 Internal Medicine and Preventive Medicine Specialist
Boyd Lyles, Jr. MD, the center's founder, is an internal
and preventive medicine specialist, an author, and a frequent speaker
on health, heart disease,
nutrition, and exercise across the U.S. and abroad. He has established a similar
clinic in Colorado and served 17 years at the Cooper Clinic, the final six as
associate medical director. In more than 20
years in preventive medicine, Dr. Lyles has performed thousands of comprehensive
health evaluations and is a knowledgeable health coach who takes a strong personal
interest in his patients’ success. For patients who have been through a
HeartHealth and Wellness Center exam, Dr. Lyles is also available for primary
care.
J. Douglas Overbeck MD
Cardiologist
Founding
director J. Douglas Overbeck, MD, board-certified in internal medicine and
cardiovascular disease, specializes in preventive cardiology and cardiovascular
evaluation of the competitive athlete. Dr. Overbeck is past chair of medicine
at Baylor Medical Center at Irving and Las Colinas Medical Center. He has served
as a cardiovascular consultant to the Dallas Mavericks, and currently is on the
board of CSANT—Texas’ largest
medical and surgical group practice of physicians specializing in cardiology
and cardiovascular surgery.
Philip Walker, MS
Sports Science Specialist
Philip Walker, MS, heads the Center’s fitness management program. The
former international and Olympic athlete and coach has led his own successful
wellness program and directed the Cooper Clinic fitness management program for
10 years. For the past 10 years, he designed and directed
physical education programs for schools, universities, and
military through the United States, Europe, Middle East, and Asia. As
an athlete for Great Britain, he consistently ranked among
the top 10 nationally in the biathlon and triathlon and competed
in more than 30 international events. He is qualified to consult
and train in adventure and endurance sports, running, tennis, golf, skiing, and
weight training and recently co-authored a golf-conditioning book with a leading
European Tour coach.
Susan Rodder, MS RD LD
Dietitian
Susan Rodder, MS RD LD, is a part-time clinical instructor at UT Southwestern
Medical Center and counsels cardiac, diabetic, and weight-loss patients in her
private practice. Her interest in preventive medicine makes her a popular corporate
speaker, covering timely nutrition topics.
